National Day for Truth and Reconciliation-September 30th

Christ The Redeemer (CTR) Catholic Schools Board of Trustees passed a motion to close all CTR schools on Thursday, September 30 to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation during a special meeting of Board called two weeks ago and held today (Sept. 10). Please review our revised Divisional Calendar.

Teaching and learning about Truth and Reconciliation in a meaningful way through the development of common lessons, activities and themes will be a major focus both before and after the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Another symbolic action will be to encourage staff and students to wear orange on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and all CTR schools will lower their flags to half-mast on September 30 as a symbol of this day.

CTR is also encouraging families to check their local community for opportunities to engage in commemoration of this day. The Board extends their gratitude to everyone who offered their knowledge, expertise, and input in this engagement process.  May God bless Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation process.

St. John Paul II Collegiate Indigenous Land Acknowledgement (recited every Monday morning as part of our morning anthem/Gospel/prayer routine):

We acknowledge that St. John Paul II Collegiate resides within the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III, and on the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy, which includes the Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika, as well as the Tsuu T’ina and Iyarhe Nakoda First Nations.  We recognize the land as an act of reconciliation and thanksgiving to those whose territory we reside on, and are committed to reconciliation through education.  We pray that God guides all Canadians as we proudly work toward this goal.
